Orpheum Theatre New York History
The Orpheum Theater's began as a nationwide project of the Orpheum Circuit, founded December 22, 1919 by Martin Beck, a vaudeville and motion picture theatre owner. The original intention of the Orpheum Circuit was to provide all types of public entertainment.
Just six years later Martin Beck joined forces with Benjamin Frankiln Keith and Edward Franklin Albee II to form the Radio-Keith-Orpheum motion picture studio. Of all the original Orpheum Theatres, the oldest in existence is the Palace in Los Angeles , build in 1911. However, many of the Orpheum's are known for taking the place of previously existing theatres, many dating back to the late 1800's.
