More Wicked the Musical Information
WICKED THE MUSICAL is an exciting adaptation of Gregory Maguire's best-selling novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” Everyone has seen The Wizard of Oz, the world's first full-color movie, but before WICKED, no one had heard the other side of the story; and we all know there are always two sides!
Elphaba is destined to be the next Wicked Witch of the West, and yet she is tangled in a most unusual friendship with Galinda, the beautiful Good Witch of the North. Together, as they deliberate opposing views and values, their caring for one another, as well as a mutual love-interest, makes for many twists and turns, as well as emotional growth. It takes place mostly before anyone had ever heard of Dorothy or Toto, before a young girl from Kansas found herself in the Land of Oz.
WICKED first hit Broadway on October 30, 2003 and was produced by Universal Pictures, directed by Joe Mantello, and staged by Wayne Cilento. In its first year alone, Wicked grossed $56 million, breaking box-office records around the globe. To date it has shown in more than 30 cities between Canada and the U.S. , not including London or the rest of its world-wide tours.
This production is unique and exciting, and an event you don't want to miss. The opportunity to see Wicked at the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco is a special one, and not to be taken for granted.
